Ren Carlton Featured in “Top Talent Pros in Detroit”

Every week, Marc Cenedella, the CEO & Founder of TheLadders.com distributes what he calls “Marc’s Monday Newsletter”. This week’s issue (January 23, 2012) was focused on the “Top Talent Pros in Detroit”. This list was an effort to share the recruiters and professionals in Detroit who are hiring markedly.

Not only did Ren Carlton, of Dynamic Advisory Solutions, make this list, he topped it! With DAS providing CFO and Controller services to small businesses, we are constantly prospecting for financial professionals who fit our clients’ needs. Furthermore, DAS itself is growing substantially, and we are often seeking to expand our onsite staff as well!

Hi Ren. It is my experience that in many cases this is not true. Here in London there is a glut of recruiters, all vying for the attention of hopeful candidates. Or to be more precise, there are a glut of candidates trying desparately to find reputable recruiters who can match their skills with the limited positions available. Unfortunately, recruiters sometimes do not understand the industry or the specific roles they are recruiting for and often screen out worthy applicants. Example: candidate with over 7 years reconcilements experience was not considered for a temping role because they hadn’t been in this role for over 2 years and the market had ‘changed so much’ While that may be true, matching debits and credits is a job for which I used to interview school leavers. Conversely our recruitment outsourcer used to send candidates either totally unsuited or grossly overqualified for the role. Recruiters exist to serve the interests of their corporate clients, not the candidates. Candidates at best can hope for one call back for every 15 or 20 recruiters contacted. Anecdotal advice for job seekers is to bypass the tier that blocks them from the employers and approach them direct.
I would be interested in your and others readers views.

I agree. There are several great recruiters and other mediocre recruiters who do not understand what they are recruiting for.

I too think it is worthwhile having a dedicated recruiter, whether in-house or outsourced.

We have a full-time recruiter and we use agencies. We are a high-growth firm and so it’s worthwhile for us. We find we get 70% of our hires from in-house efforts and we save time and money versus the agencies.
